XRAY SPECTROGRAPH PORTASPEC

CIANFLONE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS CORPORATION since 1984, is the world Headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA for the manufacture of laboratory/portable x-ray spectrographic instrumentation for on-site chemical analysis and coating thickness measurements, and related laboratory sample preparation equipment.

Sold worldwide, under the trade name PORTASPEC®, the Model 2501X Series X-Ray Spectrograph is a conventional (WDXRF) wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence analyzer which utilizes an x-ray tube as the x-ray source. Designed to fill a need for an instrumental technique that could rapidly and non-destructively analyze qualitatively and quantitatively materials in the field without the necessity of sending samples to a central laboratory. The Portaspec can also analyze powders with the appropriate optional holder. In addition to elemental chemical analysis, the Portaspec can also be used to measure the thickness coating weights of many thin coatings such as chromate and titanium on steel or aluminum sheets, and, tin and zinc on sheet steel. The Portaspec provides analytical solutions for many industries. These include some of the following:

AUTOMOTIVE, BUILDING AND CAN INDUSTRIES. These industries use sheet metal which is coated with a pretreatment for paint, over galvanized, tin and zinc coated sheet steel to eliminate unwanted oxidation/corrosion, and to aid adhesion for paint. The coating is in most cases a chromate or titanium base solution applied directly to the metal to a specific thickness which can be verified by the Portaspec in the lab or at the job site.COMPUTER DISK INDUSTRY. Measurement of thin iron oxide and cobalt coatings on rigid disks, both manually and automatic for various disk sizes of 48mm, 65mm, 95mm or 130mm.MINING INDUSTRY. At the mine site, total quantitative analysis of elements is available within the range indicated in the instrument's specifications. This includes all purpose-type mines and the measurement of iron in sand for the glass industry.MANUFACTURING. Used in Quality Department to verify metal grades for both incoming and outgoing materials

LABORATORY SAMPLE PREPARATION EQUIPMENT

ELECTRIC ARC BUTTON REMELT FURNACE. Used to prepare solid metal samples from odd shape materials. This includes drillings, lathe turnings, welding wire, powder, etc.

PICA BLENDER MILL. Used in laboratory to eliminate hand preparation of powdered samples. Employs a hand-pestle type motion to achieve particle size reduction.
