Using Industrial Cameras with laptops
If you are going to use Industrial cameras with laptop computers please read the following notes carefully to ensure you have a trouble free experience.
If a USB camera is being used the laptop may not supply enough power to the camera via the USB port unless the laptop is connected to a mains supply.
With FireWire cameras usually there is only a 4 pin FireWire port on the laptop which does not supply any power. The solution is to use a "break out" cable to supply power from an external power source.
Also most laptops share video memory resources with the System Memory. There is basically one memory system that is shared by both the system and video. This causes conflict during periods of heavy video resource use. It is typically seen as chopped video or awkward video movements during display. Desktop computers generally have a video card or video on the motherboard that has its own video memory system. Some of the latest laptops built for gaming or media experiences do in fact have separate video memory systems and these are highly recommended.
